And They Wear Masks (Poetry) (Henry) (sp2010)

Here's my page for this poem. The poem is brilliant and I love it to death, but I am not sure that I am interpreting it correctly.

I think the narrator is describing a scene in a hospital about a girl getting ready for some kind of surgical procedure (nurse, doctor are present). The narrator sees various kinds of "masks" on each of the characters.

My interpretation leads me to this cool photo of an abandoned hospital room, with an eerie patient's table.

Any ideas on the poem? I shall be asking the lit. people tomorrow about the interpretation.

  1. I had the same interpretation, except I thought more specifically. The masks are those surgical masks and I think that the girl is actually getting cosmetic surgery, hence the mask theme. Haha.

The background does have the chilling feel of the poem though. :)

  2. I really like the imagery.

But... are the title and author supposed to be repeated on the first line?

  3. Yeah, looks like you need to get rid of the first line in the body text since it's the title/author. I had a similar interpretation, I agree with Sanny, I kind of thought of cosmetic surgery and those doctor masks. I like the background picture, nice and simple.
